What does your teen see when he or she looks in the mirror?

All parents are invited to attend South Eugene High School Parent Council's November 1st Parent Education Series on "Eating Disorders and Body Image" Do you know how your teen really sees his or her body?" Join us for panel discussion about preventing, detecting, and responding to eating disorders. Whoa! This Internet Safety Information is really important!

South Eugene High School, Spencer Butte Middle School and Roosevelt Middle School parents had an eye opener at SEHS Parent Council's debut Parent Education Series on Teen Internet Safety.

A huge thank you goes out to our presenter for the evening, Deputy Sheriff Steve Sieczkowski, from the Lane County Sheriff's Office, who volunteers his time to teach Internet and Your Child safety classes. He provided parents will chilling information on just how easy it is for a person with mal intent to track down the location of a child from a chat room by looking up their e-mail and tracing this to a phone number and then to their address. Yikes!

We barely scratched the surface of this important topic so we encourage you to consider taking the full day, $15.00 course offered by Steve and his fellow volunteers through Lane Community College's Continuing Education Program. To find out more, contact Lane at (541) 463-5252.

Check out the new Blog Safety Tips link on the right hand column of this page. This site provides you with some great tips for protecting your teen against the dangers they and you may not realize they are facing on the internet.

Watch for information to come out each month on Parent Council's Parent Education Series, designed to bring the SEHS parent community together around topics of importance to our children and us.

Check out our October happenings!

Do you wonder exactly what your teens are doing every night on the internet and how safe it is for them?

If so, we invite you to attend Parent Council's debut Parent Education Series event tonight, Tuesday, October 10th, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the South Eugene High School Cafeteria.

Officer Steve Sieckowski from the Lane County Sheriff's Department, an expert on this topic, will be here to present to all South parents:

"Teenagers and the Internet: What exactly are they doing on MySpace.com and YouTube.Com anyway and how can we keep them safe?"

Steve and his colleagues from the Sheriff's department have received very positive feedback from other parents who have heard him speak on this topic and we hope you can attend.

WARNING: Steve asks that, due to the content nature of his presentation that only those over 18 years old attend.

SEHS Parent Council's Family Connections Dessert was a hit!

We had a great mixture of new and returning families who came and met each other and interacted with Parent Council members.

Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed conversations and desserts with Parent Council at our "1st Family Connections Dessert" event this past week.

After we had our fill of sugar and coffee we enjoyed an interesting and brief (Helen's favorite kind) Parent Council meeting.

The most surprising realization made by both new and returning families was that they did not realize that Parent Council was not an organization that you had to join. It simply is a forum for parents to connect and to learn more about raising our kids and you can come and go, as you please, no obligations necessary!

Stay tuned for details on our first Parent Education Series Event coming up on Tuesday, October 10th, from 7:30-8:30, SEHS Cafeteria, entitled:

"Teenagers and the Internet: What exactly are they doing on MySpace.com and YouTube.com anyway?

Our guest presenter is Steve Sieczkowski from the Lane County Sheriff Department, who is an IYC (The Internet and Your Child) certified instructor.

Love dessert and want to connect with other South families?

If so, please join Parent Council for our 1st Annual “ South Family Connections Dessert Extravaganza” on Wednesday, September 13th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the South Eugene HS Cafeteria.

Come as you are to this very informal event and you can either bring along a treat to share with others or you can just come and share in some of the best sweets Eugene has to offered provided by the Parent Council.

Parent Council members will be on hand to provide you with information on how to get connected with other South families so you’ll know more how to find out what is going on when and where.

We'd love to have you stay for the one hour first Parent Council meeting of the year after the dessert from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria, as well.
